Lots of projects

Busy day getting items for projects.  Went to Lowe's and brought lots of work.

Bought shelf boards.  Remodeling the laundry room.  Moved somethings around and going to put up some much needed shelves.  Went out to my wood stash (I collect wood left over from previous project - used and unused) and found the brace boards for the shelves.  My daughter started the project this afternoon while I did paperwork associated with my mom's estate.  So that project is already about 1/2 done.

Bought metal fence posts.  Need to protect the blueberry bushes from the deer.  Put up metal posts and fishing line around my fruit trees last fall and so far the deer have left them alone.  So time to protect the blueberry bushes.

Bought a peg board. Going to put up another board in the garage so I can finish unpacking.  Lived in this house for almost two years and still have boxes to unpack.

Bought the chair rail for the breeezeway.  We have been 6 months trying to repaint and refloor an breezeway.  So far we have painted and put in a new floor but the finishing touches have not been done.  Going to correct that.

It was suppose to snow again and I wanted to be prepared with supplies.  Now they are calling for rain.  Oh well, we are prepared for whatever Mother Nature decides to send our way.

Interesting Day

Finally got to go to church.  Between my trips to Michigan for my Mother and being sick myself, It has been 2 months since I have been able to attend.

Decided to make meatloaf, and scalloped potatoes for supper.  Turned the oven on to preheat. Oh my gosh!  The smell was unbearable.  Just before my trips to Michigan we caught a small mouse in the kitchen.  It was living under the stove. Must be there were more than the one that we caught.  We ended up taking the stove out to the yard.

Thank goodness for a toaster oven.  Didn't get to make the meatloaf but the potatoes came out great.

Glad my daughter decided to bake cakes at her husband's apt. this weekend.  She is making a wedding cake for one of her cousins. The wedding is at the beginning of April.  At the cake testing today, we got to try a white chocolate cake, and a devil's food cake with white chocolate butter cream frosting and fondue frostings.  The white chocolate cake with butter cream frosting won hands down.  Our next challenge making white butter.

I have made butter in the past so it isn't a great challengne.  The price of cream sky rocketed so I quit.  Even have a hand churn and an electric one. The white part is the real challenge.  Home made butter is not as yellow as what you buy from the store but it isn't white either.  Read on the internet that goat's cream produces a white butter.  So the challegne will be to find goat cream.

Productive Day

Got my car fixed only took two hours of sitting at the dealership.  Had two recalls on it.  Something to do with the gear shift and something to do with the value stems on the tires.  They were both recall items so at least I didn't have to pay to get it fixed.

Finally got the Hokie shawl finished.  It has taken almost 8 weeks to finish it.  Most shawls take 10 to 14 days.  A lot has been happening in the family and at one point it actually got stored in the basement.

My etsy shop is now up and running.  Check it out SSEspeciallyForYou

These are just a few of the colors of Scrubby Dish Clothes that we offer.  They are made of a special new yarn just released to the market and they are great for cleaning dried food on dirty dishes.  Plus you can use them on the non-stick pans without worrying about messing up the coating.

Didn't get everything listed on Etsy in one day, but we will continue working on it over the next few days and we hope you will come visit and maybe even buy something.

More Progress

Progress is being made. My cold seems to be getting better.

The garden is starting to take shape.  My daughter and I are moving the garden so that it can be fenced to keep the chickens and ducks out.  The beds will be raised so better soil can be placed in them.  Bedford Co. red clay isn't the best for raising vegetables.

Over the summer my daughter created compost bins and now it is paying off as there is compost for the new raised beds.  One bed is complete and there is still compost to be used.  We even planted asparagus in part the new bed.  Had to fence off the top of that part of the garden to keep the ducks and chickens from unplanting the roots.

Tires are in place ready to start potatoes next month. Just needs a little compost and we will be ready to go.  Still have to build the center bed and another L shape bed.

Worked in the garage this afternoon.  There are actually large spaces of concrete in it.  Does your garage ever get so cluttered that you can bearly walk in it.  Amazing what you find in one that you clean.  Moved two years ago and found boxes that were never unpacked.

Even got the rest of the fringe on a Virginia Tech shawl.  Next is the top edge and a wash job and it will be ready to sale.

Hope you are having a wonderful week.

Progress is being made

On the recovery list almost.  Got a "cold" or as the doctor said the "flu".  Guess I am from the old school, a cold was when you are congested, and coughing.  The flu was when you were vomiting and in the bathroom all the time.  Whatever you want to call it I was down for the count. Basically slept for 48 hours.

Making progess on the Virginia Tech shawl.  The weaving is finished and now it is time for the fringe.  Then it will be available for sale along with the other shawls that my daughter and I have woven on the 7 foot triangle loom.  Our esty shop should be open and ready for business by the end of next week.

Eight inches of snow and adding more.  The weatherman says up to 24" before we are done.  I think more like 12" but what do I know.  My chickens and ducks must know something.  They refuse to come out of the coop today.  Get real upset when the door is opened.  But they do like the food and water when it is delivered.

Found a real interesting article today about how old are the eggs that you buy out of the store.  I know for sure mine are only a couple days old at the most because I bring them in from from the coop each day. To check  out this awesome article i found by clicking here.

Burr It's Cold!!

It is only 20 degrees.  I prefer the 70's.  Sounds like winter has come this part of the world.  It was in the 60's last week.  They are predicting snow for tomorrow and Friday.  Around here we believe it when we see it.

My poor ducks tried to take a bath in or on an ice cube in their large water tray.  Felt sorry for them so I dumped the ice and gave them warm water.  Which they were very thankful.

I'm not going outside
